sightseeing of Cape Town city center. You can also join the other subsequent four to five (4-5) days sightseeing which include the safari and Table Mountain.
The program provides volunteers an opportunity to work in hospitals and clinics in South Africa, and with the medical officer in charge. The program includes: helping in the consulting room, helping in the laboratory, pharmacy and helping in the surgical theater.
The program also includes the HIV/AIDS project to help in the educating the populates on how eradicate the deadly disease or to minimize the spread, and to put an end to the illiteracy, stigma, and discrimination surrounding it. The STAESA Medical Program runs in Cape Town.
Our volunteer team comprises of non-medical volunteers, nurses, doctors and other health care providers who will work side by side with local medical professionals.
Without any controversy, our health care program could not have gained this remarkable feat without the tremendous services of our volunteers in the health centers.

Are ready to go? We are ready to have you for this incredible busy program where you will be working full time with patients.. Most of the patients that attend to this hospital are from a very poor families and communities ( Informal settlements). There is a great need in the schools..
The locations of our programs are well picked where you will be placed and work directly with patients.
You can also choose to work in all the departments in the hospital the pre-school. The program provides an opportunity to immerse yourself into the very unique culture of South Africa.

Working hours and reponsibilities!
Generally volunteers work from 08:00.-12:00 a.m. and 13:00-16:00 p.m. However, your exact working hours are adjusted according to the activities at your work place. You´re permitted to take a day off once in a while. Week-ends are free time for all our volunteers. The orphanage is open during the weekends also. you can choose to go and help if you want.
Responsibilities:
Your schedules in the hospital include the following below and many more that will be discussed with you upon arrival.
Working directly with patience under the supervision the head of the medical team in the hospital professionals in charge at the hospital. (2) Working in a wide scope of settings and duties ranging from helping in both IN-PATIENTS (taking medical history of patients, taking vitals - temperature, BP, HR, Sp02, labeling and packaging out-house lab samples for analysis) and OUT-PATIENTS DEPTS (helping dressing beds, helping charting, performing laboratory schedules and helping the nurses in the ward for other duties. (3) Helping in other general work in the Laboratory and pharmacy (4) Observing and helping in the maternity ward (5) HIV/AIDS public education program and HIV/AIDS program in the hospital – counseling and testing (6) Working as part of a holistic team to prevent re hospitalization in chronically non-compliant mentally ill clients who have history of multiple hospitalizations
(7) Patient care (basic and therapeutic care), psychosocial care
(8)Comprehensive Psychosocial Assessments, treatment plans and individual therapy
Other activities
In your free hours you can work in orphanage, schools, women and development program, construction.

There is real poverty in South Africa and you will soon realize that you are far richer and more fortunate than most local people you meet. You will probably attract your fair share of souvenir beggars, but try and take the time to meet ordinary people going about their day to day business too. The experience will be worth it. Don't be afraid to step out of your house, just take some precautions.

Kind of clothes you should pack for your trip to South Africa
Jeans and Trousers: blue jeans, cotton trousers, khaki trousers, Light Shirts and Blouses: T-Shirts, short sleeve shirts and long sleeved shirts. Shorts also for your free days. Pack both summer and winter cloths. South Africa weather is unpredictable. You have the four seasons in a day. Socks and underwear: Shoes: Good leather shoes, sandals, and a lightweight pair of Hiking boots if you will doing some hiking.
Kind of luggage you should take
It all begins with the right suitcases or suitcase. It also depends where you coming from. If you are coming from North America you get to bring 2 suitcases and 50 pounds each, from Europe it is almost half that. It means one has to be practical and take in mind what your plans are once you arrive in Africa, where you will be going and what you will be doing while here.
Keep all essentials like the pill, malaria pills, essential medicine, debit and credit cards, camera and your toothbrush in your hand luggage. Also put one set of clothing if the unthinkable happens that your luggage is temporarily lost. Money Belt: One that will allow you to carry your passport also. Do not wear your money on the outside of your clothing.
